California Court rejects new appeal from the Leader of La Luz del Mundo

A California court on Wednesday rejected the appeal process filed a few days ago by the lawyers of Naasón Joaquín García, the leader of the La Luz del Mundo church, who is detained on 19 charges of sexual abuse of minors, child pornography and human trafficking. .

This decision would pave the way for a media trial that will begin on September 27 on the ninth floor of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Joaquín García maintains that he is innocent.

The page of the Second District of the state Court of Appeals indicates that this Wednesday the case was closed after the request presented by the team that legally defends the pastor was rejected. That process began last Wednesday and since then its arguments have been unknown.

Alan Jackson, who leads Joaquín García's legal team, did not comment on this until the publication of this note. The church has not spoken either.

This new appeal attempt pointed to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the same judicial body mentioned in another case that, based on a technical failure, succeeded in having the first criminal case filed by the Attorney General's Office dismissed in April 2020. California.

The agency immediately filed another criminal proceeding, adding new charges related to a fifth complainant identified as "Jane Doe 5," who was allegedly sexually abused by two of Joaquín García's assistants in a Beverly Hills hotel. The minister was the only spectator of that "sexual demonstration," said a prosecutor's investigator at a hearing.
