Accomplice of Naasón Joaquín is sentenced to one year of probation and avoids going to jail

Susana Medina Oaxaca, who is an accomplice in the case of sexual abuse of minors against the leader of the La Luz del Mundo church, was sentenced to one year of probation, so she avoids going to jail, according to information from the Court Upper Los Angeles, California.

It is the result of an agreement with the California Prosecutor's Office, which also dropped 16 charges against Naasón Joaquín García, who pleaded guilty to three charges related to sexual assault on three faithful of his congregation who were minors when the events occurred.

"We can confirm that (Medina) Oaxaca was sentenced to one year of probation, in addition to time served in jail and house arrest, as well as six months of psychiatric counseling," said the Prosecutor's Office in a message sent to Univision News.

Naasón Joaquín, 53, will be sentenced this Wednesday. The government informed this medium that he faces a sentence of up to 16 years and 8 months in prison.

Media Oaxaca, 27, was arrested along with the Mexican pastor when they both arrived on a private jet at the Los Angeles airport on the afternoon of June 3, 2019.

She was detained for a few days in a jail in this city and was released after paying bail of $150,000. Her bail was originally set at $5 million.

For three years she remained monitored by a geolocation device that kept her rooted in her home in San Diego, on the border with Mexico. She was only allowed out of it for her hearings and she had to ask permission to go to medical and dental appointments, according to court records.

According to the indictment, Medina Oaxaca participated in the sexual assault of a minor identified as 'Jane Doe 3'. She pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse on Friday.

Two charges of forced oral copulation of a minor weighed against him. The court complaint alleges that Medina Oaxaca helped Naasón Joaquín and co-defendant Alondra Ocampo to force the teenager 'Jane Doe 3' to participate in an act of oral sex.

The three forced the minor through threats and violence, an aggravating circumstance that added another accusation against Oaxaca, says the California Department of Justice.

These crimes occurred between January 1, 2017 and January 31, 2018.

The mask from 'John Doe 2'

Prosecutors say that Susana Medina Oaxaca was involved in the purchase or acquisition of a black mask that was put on a 15 or 16-year-old boy, identified as 'John Doe 2'. The abuse of the minor was recorded by Naasón Joaquín himself, whose reflection is seen in the mirror of a room, described investigators from the California Department of Justice.

The theme of the black mask was recorded in text messages found on the iPhone that was seized from Medina Oaxaca.

The prosecutor's agent, David Baldivia, testified in 2020 that he reviewed a written conversation in which Medina Oaxaca asked Ocampo to buy or make four black masks: two with holes in the eyes and mouth, and others two that covered the entire head to the neck.

"Send them to Guadalajara," one of the messages said, according to Baldivia.

Another agent, Troy Holmes, reviewed in court a printed photograph of a thin young man, wearing a white shirt and black tie, and wearing a black mask that covered his nose. It was the main physical evidence in this case.
